March 9, 2011: Peninah Nthenya (Safe Spaces Founder/Director) accepts the I Am Powerful Award from Care International in Washington DC on International Women's Day. Care has pledged to build Safe Spaces a basketball court in the Eastlands of Nairobi. Peninah's Interview with Voice of America Safe Spaces works with young girls and women between the ages of 7 – 25 to build a strong generation of dynamic young women. Through life-skills training, arts and sports programs, vocational and enterprise training, mentorship and international exchange, the girls are set up for incredible learning opportunities that lead towards economic opportunity, civic leadership and community health.
