LIFT is inviting YOU to: Empower yourselves, create a better city and a better future “Your Rights in Action” Workshops – Free Training starts after July 15 (TBA) You can help your community by learning: - Human Rights and Democracy Skills for organizing a campaign-for-change - Leadership skills including effective communication, planning, and evaluation - Networking and Social Media Based Organizing (using Internet to organize) - The role of media/alternative media in a Human Rights campaign-for-change - How to access and speak with politicians during the Provincial Election - How to work to educate public and decision-makers to make change happen Great Summer Experience, Where You Can: -Gain experience/references for resume and fulfill high school co-op hours -Learn how to organize and lead workshops, work-groups, and campaigns -Meet other Toronto Youth and Share Ideas to improve your community/city -Learn how governments work & become an effective community advocate -Participate in the Annual Summer Social-Justice Retreat (Algonquin Park) We also provide: -Free TTC -Free Refreshments -Free Childcare -Free summer concerts -Free movie nights -Meet Great People Two workshop locations: North Toronto and Central Toronto/East York *locations to be defined based on location of registered participants For more information contact Jorge Pineda, LIFT Youth Rights Project Manager Email: youth@lift.to www.lift.to Tel: 647-854-9028 (M-F from 10am-6pm) The L.I.F.T./ Youth Rights Project is a youth-led group, supported by experienced activists, whose purpose is to educate and organize the next generation of community leaders, and help youth-groups strengthen their democracy and community change projects. Your Rights in Action is a Train- the-trainer workshop series for diverse urban youth to develop their youth community organizing skills. Youth will learn about how Human Rights and Democracy work, and will learn related skills including: effective communication, social-issue analysis, leadership, group facilitation, and public speaking.
